BACKGROUND

NNPC Research and Development Division was set up to provide world-class technological support to the National Oil and Gas industry through Quality research and laboratory services, whereby acquiring the necessary skills, expertise and utilizing state-of-the-art technology to achieve its objectives.

It started as a department in 1977 with two small laboratories and by 1983, it had grown to a staff strength of 80. Today R&D is a Division, continuously building on its capacity, acquiring various skills and know-how's and gradually maturing to a world class outfit through the following objectives:

Undertake studies and provide expert scientific and laboratory services and advice in all fields related to NNPC operations.
Undertake applied scientific research related to the corporate industrial development and environmental protection.
Establish and cultivate scientific co-operation through joint research and information exchange programs with academic and other research and technological institutions, both national and international.
ISO Certification and Accreditation of R&D laboratories.
Currently, we are structured with a Group General Manager as the Head of the Division with two departments headed by General Managers (i.e. GM Research and GM, Laboratory Services) .These departments are engaged in Research, Commercial Laboratory activities and Consultancy.
